In which the protagonist recalls his life on the planet known as Sky's Edge and the murder of his true love. He comes to the realization that he must find her murderer and avenge her death to close the circle and reclaim his life but in doing so is confronted with the bitter truth that he has changed bodies, altered his personality, and irrevocably transformed his life to achieve this goal. He is no one and has no one. The horrible disfigured pit of Chasm City is his reward.
